Packing right for Egypt’s White Desert can make the difference between an unforgettable overnight camping experience—and a long, cold night wishing you brought one more layer. Desert weather changes fast: warm sun during the day, cooler temperatures after sunset, and occasional wind and dust.
At Egypt Camp White Desert, we guide overnight trips and see the same packing mistakes again and again—so this checklist is designed to be realistic, lightweight, and actually useful.

Footwear: Don’t Underestimate This
The White Desert has sand, rocks, and uneven ground around formations.
Best choice: closed-toe walking shoes or light hiking shoes
Avoid: flip-flops and open sandals (sand + sharp rocks)
Essentials for Wind, Dust & Sun
These items solve 80% of “desert discomfort”:
Scarf/buff: protects face and neck in wind
Sunscreen: reapply during the day
Lip balm: desert air is dry
Hand sanitizer / wipes: very practical at camp
Overnight Camping Gear (What You Actually Need)
Most guided tours provide the basic camping setup, but you should bring personal comfort items.
Recommended
Headlamp/flashlight (hands-free is best)
Power bank (cold nights drain batteries)
Small backpack/daypack
Personal medicines (if needed)
Earplugs (optional, but great if you’re a light sleeper)

Deodorant (small)
Simple face/body moisturizer (dry air)
Camera & Phone Gear (If You Care About Photos)
The White Desert is a dream for sunset and star photos.
Bring
Tripod (best for stargazing photos)
Extra batteries (cold drains them faster)

Phone storage space cleared
Optional: a small lens cloth (dust happens).
Packing by Season
October–November
Light jacket for evenings
Scarf/buff
December–February (coldest nights)
Thermal base layers
Warm insulated jacket
Beanie + gloves
Thick socks
March–April
Layers (days warmer, nights still cool)
Wind protection (scarf + sunglasses)
Common Packing Mistakes (Avoid These)
Bringing only summer clothes (then freezing at night)
Forgetting a scarf/buff (wind + dust)
Wearing open shoes
Not carrying a headlamp (phone light is annoying at camp)
Final Tip: Pack Light, Pack Smart
You don’t need a huge bag. If you cover: layers + wind protection + light + power, you’ll be comfortable.

Egypt Camp White DesertPosted on Tripadvisor Anna Maria IVerified An unforgettable experience in the Black and in the White Desert I’ve been traveling with a group of 12 friends in the Black and White desert. Spectacular landscapes all over. It seemed we were on another planet, very fascinating and unique views. Camping in the desert for five nights was an amazing and unforgettable experience. Million of stars above us, and the silence and the vastness of the desert all around: an experience worth living at least once. Mohammed and his team were very friendly, well organized and professionals. Some nights they played music around the fire creating a magic atmosphere. Thanks Mohammed and Team for this great experience! Posted on Tripadvisor Sary AVerified An Unforgettable Highlight of Our Egypt Trip! We had an absolutely excellent experience with Egypt Camp White Desert, and it was easily the highlight of our entire time in Egypt. From start to finish, everything was handled with so much care and professionalism. The landscapes of the Black and White Deserts are like something from another planet, but what truly made the trip special was the team. Our guides were incredibly knowledgeable, warm, and went above and beyond to make us feel safe and comfortable. We spent a magical evening camping under a vast, star-filled sky, enjoying a delicious traditional dinner cooked right over the open fire.Waking up to the sunrise over the white chalk formations was a memory we will cherish forever. If you are looking for an authentic, stress-free, and deeply moving desert adventure, I cannot recommend this team enough. They truly treat you like family!Posted on Tripadvisor Riccardo BVerified raccomandato Bellissima esperienza!!! Ancora grazie al Egypt Camp White Desert PietroPosted on Tripadvisor Vinni CVerified Adventure @ Siwah Oasis and the Deserts They were incredibly beautiful days for us as couple. We were picked up Monday morning by a guide in Cairo and started the tour towards Black & White Desserts after lunch. The landscapes and shapes were really beautiful. We had a amazing nice overnight stay in the desert, the tent was clean and everything well maintained. Tuesday morning to Thursday we drove the Siwah Oasis with a second guide . Accommodation and meals were really well organised. The two guides were humanly very pleasant, they were diligent, accommodating and considerate. Lisa & Vincent 🇩🇪
